VP Education

Hello, everyone! My name is Nikolai (Mykola) Sydorenko. I am a third year Aerospace Engineering Student and will be orienting in the Spacecraft stream. This academic year, I am going to be the VP of Education for the magnificent Aerospace Course Union (ACU) community.

So far, during all my two years of undergrad, I have got a chance to participate in the variety of university events, student clubs, communities, and even get the prestigious job in the metal casting research field on campus. Briefly specifically about my involvement, currently I am leader of the Combustion Dynamics sub-team in the rocketry team called Metropolitan Aerospace Combustion Hub (MACH). Additionally, I participated every year in the Junior Glider Competition and got a chance to become a second-year representative in Toronto Metropolitan Launch Initiative (TMLI). Also, I am currently a President of the Material Advantage group (this is a community dedicated to expose the field of metal casting industry and research to undergraduate students). Besides my involvement in these teams, this educational year, I am going to become a president of a new student design group – Metropolitan Aerospace Rocket Society (MARS). With my fantastic team we are starting the new rocket design competition for all interested undergraduate students on campus. And the last thing regarding my achievements will be my expertise in the material science field. My current scientific research is related to the development of the light weight aluminum alloys for the automotive and aerospace applications. Precisely I am working on the recyclability of Al-Si-Cu alloy, as well as participating in the novel research of the graphene nano particles additions as a metal matrix composite into aluminum alloys.

Besides all my achievements, I love teaching, hosting study halls and tutorials. Last year I got a gorgeous opportunity to TA the Material Science course for the first-year students (MTL200). As well as I got a unique chance thanks to MUES, to prepare students for their midterm and final examinations for MTL200 and PCS125 courses by hosting study halls.

This educational year, I plan to work with ACU team in order to continue doing what I love to – helping students! I plan to host study halls, tutorials, help organizing events, as well as addressing to the department all educational issues/concerns which might arise during our educational year. My main goal in this team, this year, is to host the CATIA certification course and examination, in order to let all interested students get licenced and accredited, what shall undoubtedly give a professional skill of aerospace industrial standards of 3D modelling, as well as help in your future undergraduate studies and additionally will also make your resume ‘shiny’ during your future job interviews.
